Description
A plan on two sheets for the sewers beneath Long Walk and High Street in Oxford. Bears inscription on verso 'These Plans for paving the City of Oxford & building of Magdalen Bridge &c were executed by William Hayward of Shrewsbury under Mr Gwynne Architect an amiable young man who afterwards contracted for the building of Henly Bridge com: Ox: but before he began his labour God called him to everlasting rest. Over the church door of the south aisle of Henly Church is a marble urn and tablet with this inscription 1782: Near this place was buried the remains of William Hayward of Shrewsbury Architect. In the 42 years of his age who had contracted for building the bridge over the River Thames in this town but died here before he had begun upon the work which has since been erected after the design of that truly ingenious man'.
